Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Product Innovation, the Director Product Strategy serves as the chief strategist and process engineer responsible for development, execution and ongoing refinement of leading edge products and services for health benefits. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing on a health benefits, programs and services that drive membership growth, increase cross selling opportunities and profitability. The Director, Product Strategy is charged with creating and implementing designs that place Humana as the leader and innovator in the health benefits industry. This individual is responsible for ensuring Humana has a diverse portfolio of health benefits products, and for driving the positioning of such as well as the sales and broker strategy and customer communications strategy.
The Director, Product Strategy will also be responsible for identifying and creating programs and services that are integral to support Humana's consumerism capabilities. In addition, this individual will identify and contract with the appropriate business partners to execute upon the strategy. The Director, Product Strategy is expected to maintain a pipeline of new products and to introduce at least one "blockbuster" product each year (e.g., >$50 million in revenue).
The Director is responsible for identifying the budgetary and staffing needs as well as leading a multi-disciplinary team in designing and implementing practices that realize the company's strategic commitment to consumerism. The Director, Product Strategy will have a team of individuals including ideators, consultants and project managers that support the design and execution of the strategy. In addition the Director, Product Strategy will harness resources from throughout the organization to drive program development and execution.
Key goals of the position:
- Consumer Insights—.Develop a keen understanding of consumers, their use of healthcare resources and plan design levers that will create behavior change. .
- Product Strategy—Develop an overarching vision and strategy for Humana's health benefits products design to place Humana on the leading edge within the health benefits industry. Research and analyze cross-industry best practices to continually shape and improve Humana's position and offerings. Identify best-of-breed companies as potential partners and/or vendors to elevate Humana's processes, products and service offerings.
- Develop channel strategies—Determine new approaches to communication and sales of new products ands services including new distribution channels and forms of media.
- Measure Performance—Establish goals and monitor product performance relative to those goals. .
- Build Humana's brand externally - Establish Humana as the market innovator in health benefits.
- Support selling and marketing initiatives - Work with market- and nationally-based sales teams to educate and influence customers, brokers, customers and consumers on Humana's products and services. .
Skills/Requirements: The desired individual should have demonstrated experience in product development with exceptional results. Health benefits experience a plus. Leading edge thinking and risk taking is required. This individual shall possess the leadership skills to influence others in a matrix organization and infuse them with a passion for the proposed products and services. A Masters degree in business, marketing, or a related field is required. In addition, the individual must have demonstrated exceptional performance in a product development role and have a minimum of 10 years experience.
